Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been appointed to President Donald Trump’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition, joining the ranks of notable athletes and sports figures. The announcement came after an executive order was signed at the White House last week, which also reestablished the Presidential Fitness Test. While Tagovailoa was unable to attend the event due to training camp commitments, he expressed pride in being part of this prestigious team.
In a recent statement, Tagovailoa shared his thoughts on the appointment, saying, "I think it’s pretty cool – it’s an honor." Although he admitted to being somewhat unfamiliar with the council’s workings, he is excited about the opportunity to contribute.
Other prominent members of the council include golf champion Bryson DeChambeau, NFL legends Lawrence Taylor and Paul "Triple H" Levesque, and golf icon Annika Sorenstam. The council also features sports greats like Gary Bettman, Roger Goodell, Wayne Gretzky, and many more. Notably, NFL star Saquon Barkley declined the invitation.
In a related social media post, Ivanka Trump shared photos of Tagovailoa and Dolphins wide receiver Braxton Berrios enjoying time with family. The collection included playful moments of her son tossing a football with the athletes, showcasing the lighter side of sports and family life.
Tagovailoa’s wife, Annah, has openly supported the president in the past. In October, she praised Trump’s proactive measures in response to Hurricane Milton on her Instagram. However, her post received mixed reactions, with some negative comments concerning Tua’s recent concussion, which raised concerns about his long-term health and NFL career.
As Tua Tagovailoa continues to excel on the field, his role on the Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition reflects his commitment not only to football but also to promoting health and fitness in the community.
