Preamble to Stage 4
Demi Vollering of FDJ-Suez will participate in today’s Stage 4 despite suffering a heavy crash on the approach to Angers yesterday. The reigning champion of the Tour de France Femmes narrowly avoids the fate of several notable riders who have already withdrawn, including Marlen Reusser (Movistar) and Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ).
Vollering’s team manager, Stephen Delcourt, voiced concerns about the attitude of many teams and riders, emphasizing the need for respect within the sport.
In the meantime, Marianne Vos has reclaimed the General Classification lead after yesterday’s stage victory by Lorena Wiebes. Vos is currently just 6 seconds ahead of Kim Le Court Pienaar and 12 seconds in front of her teammate, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot. As the stakes rise, expect excitement and potential surprises as the peloton navigates through today’s 131 km route from Saumur to Poitiers, which features a category-four climb at Côte de Marigny.
Stage Start: 1:45 PM UK time / 2:45 PM local time
