Todd Boehly’s Phone Check Caught on Camera During Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace Match
Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly found himself in an awkward moment during the recent goalless draw against Crystal Palace on Saturday when his wife, Kate, noticed him distractedly checking his phone. The interaction, which was captured on camera, showed Kate gently nudging Todd to remind him that he was being broadcast live in the stadium and around the globe, seemingly not paying attention to the match.
While some fans might have felt frustrated by Boehly’s apparent disinterest, it’s easy to understand why he lost focus during such a lackluster game. The match offered little excitement, and if not for a little-known rule, Crystal Palace could have taken an early lead. Eberechi Eze struck a powerful free kick that initially seemed to break the deadlock, only for the goal to be disallowed due to an unusual ruling.
According to the officials, Palace defender Marc Guehi was positioned within one meter of the Chelsea wall during the free kick, which was deemed to have interfered with play. This season, a new rule mandates that referees explain their decisions to fans in the stadium, and after reviewing the play, the referee confirmed, “After review, away number six is less than one meter away from the wall as the shot is taken. Therefore, it’s an indirect free kick and a disallowed goal.”
As Chelsea continues to navigate a challenging start to the season, the focus now shifts to their upcoming match against West Ham on Friday, where they will be eager to secure their first victory.
