Authorities in South Sudan are raising urgent concerns about the country’s mental health crisis. Last month alone, Juba witnessed a staggering 12 suicides within just one week, highlighting the growing need for mental health support. Unfortunately, mental health clinics are few and far between, and many are facing the risk of closure.
In 2022, eight new centers were established across the nation to provide vital assistance to over 20,000 individuals for the first time. However, with funding from Italy and Greece nearing its end, the sustainability of these essential services is now in jeopardy.
It is crucial for stakeholders to come together to secure ongoing support and funding to ensure the well-being of South Sudan’s population. Access to mental health care is not just a necessity; it’s a lifeline for many in need.
