ESPN Makes Major Move: Acquires NFL Network and RedZone Channel

Exciting news for football fans! ESPN has officially announced its acquisition of the NFL Network along with key media assets, including the beloved RedZone channel. In a groundbreaking deal revealed on Tuesday, the NFL will receive a 10% equity stake in ESPN, marking a significant shift in the world of sports broadcasting.

While some fans expressed concerns about potential changes resulting from this new partnership, one thing remains certain: Scott Hanson, the iconic host of RedZone, will continue to lead the channel into the 2025 season. Taking to social media, Hanson reassured fans, stating, “It’s official. Yes, I will still be hosting RedZone. Fired up for a great season! Optimistic about this new partnership!”

Hanson, who has been the face of RedZone since 2009, has grown tremendously in popularity, thanks in part to his memorable catchphrases that resonate with viewers. After his contract with NFL Media expired at the end of last season, he successfully negotiated a new deal, ensuring his return for the upcoming season.

Under this new agreement, the NFL will maintain ownership and production of RedZone programming from its studios in Southern California. Meanwhile, ESPN will manage cable and satellite distribution, while the NFL retains rights for digital platform distribution.

ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “By combining these NFL media assets with ESPN’s reach and innovation, we’re creating a premier destination for football fans. Together, ESPN and the NFL are redefining how fans engage with the game — anytime, anywhere. This deal fuels ESPN’s digital future, setting the stage for an even more robust offering as we prepare to launch our new direct-to-consumer service.”

As part of this exciting initiative, the NFL Network is set to be included in ESPN’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service, scheduled to launch this fall. This new service will provide fans with access to a wide array of professional and college sports.
