TBA Studios Unveils Trailer for the Upcoming Historical Biopic "Quezon"

TBA Studios in the Philippines has just released the highly anticipated trailer for "Quezon," a historical biopic set to hit domestic theaters on October 15. This captivating film stars Jericho Rosales, known for his role in "Siargao," as the iconic Manuel L. Quezon. "Quezon" is part of TBA Studios’ acclaimed "Bayaniverse" trilogy, a collection of films inspired by Philippine history.

The film boasts an impressive cast, including Game of Thrones’ Iain Glen, Benjamin Alves from "Widows’ War," Mon Confiado of "Exchange," and singer-actress Karylle. The "Bayaniverse" also features the monumental films "Heneral Luna" (2015) — the highest-grossing historical movie in Philippine cinema — and "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral" (2018). Directed by Jerrold Tarog, who helmed the previous installments, "Quezon" serves as both a conclusion to the trilogy and a standalone narrative.

TBA Studios President and COO, Daphne O. Chiu-Soon, expressed excitement about the film’s release, noting that "Quezon" promises to be an engaging cinematic experience for all audiences, regardless of their familiarity with the previous films. Following its premiere in the Philippines, an international release will follow.

Supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and CreatePHFilms, "Quezon" delves into the life of Manuel L. Quezon during the tumultuous years following the Philippine Revolution and under American occupation. As he fights for Philippine independence, Quezon navigates a treacherous political landscape filled with rivals, including Leonard Wood, Sergio Osmeña, and Joven Hernando. The film culminates in the fierce 1935 presidential election against Emilio Aguinaldo, showcasing Quezon’s charm and strategic favoritism as he seeks to reshape Philippine politics.

Benjamin Alves and Mon Confiado reprise their roles as the younger Manuel L. Quezon and Emilio Aguinaldo, respectively, while Scottish actor Iain Glen takes on the role of Leonard Wood. The talented ensemble cast also features Arron Villaflor as Joven Hernando, Cris Villanueva as the older Joven Hernando, Romnick Sarmenta as Sergio Osmeña, Karylle as Aurora Quezon, and JC Santos as Manuel Roxas, among others.

Chiu-Soon remarked, "We are thrilled to present ‘Quezon’ to audiences both in the Philippines and internationally. This film represents our commitment to showcasing the richness of Philippine cinema. With ‘Quezon,’ we aim to deliver a captivating experience that resonates with everyone, regardless of whether they’ve seen the earlier films in the trilogy."

Mark your calendars for the release of "Quezon" on October 15, and prepare to witness a pivotal moment in Philippine history brought to life on the big screen!
