Vertical Acquires U.S. Rights to ‘Giant’: A Boxing Drama Featuring Amir El-Masry and Pierce Brosnan
In an exciting development for boxing and film enthusiasts alike, Vertical has secured the U.S. rights to "Giant," a riveting boxing drama that delves into the life of British-Yemeni boxing sensation Prince Naseem "Naz" Hamed. Starring Amir El-Masry, known for his role in "Limbo," alongside the legendary Pierce Brosnan from "Black Bag," this film is a must-see for sports and drama fans.
A True Story of Triumph and Adversity
"Giant" tells the inspiring true story of Hamed’s journey from humble beginnings on the gritty streets of Sheffield to achieving World Championship glory under the guidance of his Irish trainer, Brendan Ingle, portrayed by Brosnan. The film explores the dynamic between Hamed, whose unorthodox style and confident persona captivated audiences, and Ingle, a former steel industry worker turned boxing coach. Their unique partnership helped Hamed rise to unprecedented levels of fame in the boxing world, all while navigating the challenges of Islamophobia and racism prevalent in 1980s and 1990s Britain.
A Talented Team Behind the Camera
Directed and written by Rowan Athale, known for "The Rise" and "Gangs of London," "Giant" is produced by an impressive team, including executive producer Sylvester Stallone, adding a notable name to the project. The film is set to hit U.S. theaters in the first quarter of 2026, with True Brit Entertainment managing its release across UK and Irish cinemas.
A Vision Brought to Life
Rowan Athale expressed his excitement about bringing this powerful story to the big screen: “It has been my dream and ambition to bring ‘Giant’ to cinema for many years. The tale of Prince Naseem Hamed and his complex relationship with the legendary Brendan Ingle is nothing short of legendary. It’s a mix of humor, heartbreak, and cinematic thrill, and I’m thrilled to collaborate with the iconic Pierce Brosnan and the incredibly talented Amir El-Masry. With the support of Sylvester Stallone and Balboa Productions, I look forward to sharing this story with audiences in the U.S. and the U.K.”
