Teddy Bridgewater Set for NFL Comeback with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Teddy Bridgewater is gearing up for another NFL comeback, as confirmed by Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht. The 32-year-old quarterback is set to join forces with Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask, marking his second return from retirement. Licht shared with reporters on Tuesday that Bridgewater visited Tampa and, while no official deal is in place yet, the intention to sign him is clear.

Bridgewater, renowned for his experience and leadership, has played ten seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. His career has also included stints with the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins.

Licht emphasized the benefits of having Bridgewater in the quarterback room, stating, "It’d be a nice addition…good for Baker. He’s an experienced guy, a smart player, and an exceptional coach." Although Licht did not confirm whether Bridgewater would serve as the backup over Trask, he mentioned that competition within the team remains open.

In 2023, Bridgewater announced his retirement, which he officially completed in early 2024. Following his retirement, he turned to coaching at his former high school in Miami, where he successfully led the team to a Class 3A state championship last season. However, he made headlines again in December by coming out of retirement to assist the Detroit Lions during their playoff run. Throughout his NFL career, Bridgewater has achieved a starter record of 33-32, accumulating 15,120 passing yards, 75 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 90.5.

Recently, Bridgewater faced a suspension from coaching his high school team due to providing players with financial benefits, a decision he publicly questioned on Facebook, asserting that he "self-reported" the incident and stated, "I’m not going anywhere."
