Tragic Mass Shooting at NFL Headquarters: Employee Injured and Lives Lost
In a devastating incident at the NFL headquarters located at 345 Park Avenue in midtown Manhattan, an employee was reported to be "seriously injured" during a mass shooting that unfolded on July 28, 2025. This tragic event claimed the lives of five individuals, including a police officer, after a gunman opened fire before taking his own life.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell communicated the shocking news to all league employees, acknowledging the impact of this traumatic event. He stated, “As has been widely reported, a gunman committed an unspeakable act of violence in our building at 345 Park Avenue. One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in stable condition at the hospital, and NFL staff are present to support his family.”
Fortunately, Commissioner Goodell assured everyone that the rest of the employees were accounted for and safe, and the building was being cleared by the NYPD. He urged employees to remain vigilant and attentive to emergency updates, as the situation was still evolving.
Details of the Incident and Victims
The NYPD has identified the fallen officer as 36-year-old Didarul Islam, an immigrant from Bangladesh who leaves behind a pregnant wife and two young sons. Officer Islam was working off-duty as security for Rudin Management Company at the time of the shooting. Commissioner Goodell expressed gratitude for law enforcement’s swift response, paying tribute to Officer Islam’s bravery: “We are deeply grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded to this threat quickly and decisively and to Officer Islam, who gave his life to protect others.”
The shooter, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, reportedly had a history of mental health issues. After traveling across the country, he was last seen in Columbia, New Jersey, shortly before the attack. Security footage captured Tamura entering the lobby of the building and opening fire indiscriminately. He tragically shot a security guard and continued his rampage on the 33rd floor before ultimately taking his own life. Notably, Tamura was licensed to carry a concealed weapon in Nevada.
Support for NFL Employees
In light of this tragedy, Commissioner Goodell emphasized the importance of mental health resources available to employees. He stated, “As you know, there are significant resources available to all employees, including grief counselors. Shortly, HR will provide more information on how to access these services.”
For those based in New York, Goodell advised remote work for the following day and acknowledged that taking time off is completely understandable. Enhanced security measures will be implemented at the NFL headquarters in the coming days and weeks.
Goodell concluded his message by reinforcing the NFL’s commitment to its employees: “Every one of you is a valued member of the NFL family. We will get through this together.”
