Cleveland Browns Star Myles Garrett Cited for Speeding After Preseason Game
Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was recently cited for driving at a staggering 100 mph early Saturday morning, shortly after the team’s preseason game against the Carolina Panthers. Although Garrett did not play in the game, he was pulled over in Strongsville, Ohio, a suburb near the Browns’ training facility in Berea, according to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot.
The incident occurred after the Browns returned to Cleveland from Charlotte, and reports suggest Garrett was "presumably on his way home" when he was stopped for exceeding the speed limit in a 60 mph zone.
Speeding Ticket and Team Response
Garrett received a $250 ticket, which he can pay without needing to appear in court. The Cleveland Browns organization is aware of the situation and plans to address it prior to their next preseason matchup against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
This isn’t the first time Garrett has faced speeding issues; this marks his eighth citation for speeding in the Cleveland area since being drafted first overall in 2017. In a previous incident in 2022, he flipped his Porsche while trying to avoid an animal while speeding.
Speeding Trend Among Browns Players
The Browns have seen a wave of speeding violations this preseason, notably with rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who was cited twice in June for excessive speeding. During a recent traffic stop, Sanders was clocked at 101 mph in a 60 mph zone, with a passenger in a nearby vehicle reportedly involved as well. Notably, Sanders missed a court arraignment for a prior speeding ticket and later acknowledged making "wrong choices" while addressing the issue during a charity event hosted by teammate David Njoku.
Garrett’s Future with the Browns
As the 2025 season approaches, Garrett is set to play under a lucrative four-year contract extension worth over $40 million per season, including more than $123 million in guaranteed money. His performance continues to place him in the conversation as one of the best defensive players in the NFL, having recorded 14 sacks and 47 total tackles in 2024.
