Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell: A Dynamic Duo in the DC Universe

Margot Robbie has seamlessly transitioned from playing a femme fatale to a romantic leading lady, and now she finally has the opportunity to collaborate with Colin Farrell. Before Farrell took on the iconic role of Oswald Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin, Robbie was set to face off against this DC supervillain while portraying Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey (2020). In a conversation with Farrell for Entertainment Weekly, Robbie shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes detail: “The first draft that Christina [Hodson] wrote of Birds of Prey, the villain was the Penguin. Then, Matt Reeves, the director and writer of The Batman, said, ‘Don’t use the Penguin. I’m going to use him in my project.’ So, we switched to Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor.”

Since her last appearance as Harley in The Suicide Squad (2021), there has been much speculation about Robbie’s future in the role. Recently, James Gunn, the head of DC Studios, hinted that details regarding Robbie’s return as Harley Quinn will be unveiled soon. Meanwhile, Gunn’s latest film, Superman, which premiered last month, marks the beginning of a new era for the DC Universe known as the ‘Gods and Monsters’ phase. This new direction is distinct from Reeves’ Batman Epic Crime Saga, which includes The Batman (2022) and the recent HBO Max series spin-off, The Penguin.

In addition, Gunn has addressed the delays surrounding The Batman Part II, which is now scheduled for release on October 1, 2027, following a year-long postponement. In June, Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin confirmed that the script for the much-anticipated sequel has been completed. Recently, in a letter to shareholders at Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio announced that production for The Batman Part II will kick off in the spring.

Stay tuned for more updates on Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell, and the evolving DC Universe, as fans eagerly anticipate what’s next for these beloved characters!
