Katherine LaNasa Reveals the Toughest Word She Had to Say on “The Pitt”
Katherine LaNasa, the star of HBO’s medical drama "The Pitt," recently opened up about the most challenging word she had to pronounce while filming. At the HBO Emmy Nominees celebration in Hollywood, LaNasa shared, “The word was ‘campylobacter.’ It’s a type of bacteria found in contaminated food, and honestly, it’s pretty gross.”
For context, the Cleveland Clinic explains that a Campylobacter infection, known as campylobacteriosis, is a leading cause of diarrhea, often contracted through undercooked poultry, raw milk, or untreated water.
LaNasa, who received an Emmy nomination for her role as Dana Evans, the emergency room charge nurse at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, also teased some exciting developments for Season 2. “I mentioned to the producer that I needed some jewelry for a scene—maybe some diamonds,” she joked. “You’ll see it in Episode 2, and let me tell you, it’s disgusting!”
When it comes to tackling challenging scenes, LaNasa has her own coping mechanism. “I try to disconnect from my body during those moments,” she explained. “I prepare myself to step outside of my emotions when filming.”
The actress also shared her personal journey, revealing that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer about a year before landing her role on “The Pitt.” “Walking onto the set initially triggered some memories for me,” LaNasa admitted. “After battling cancer, returning to a hospital setting felt surreal, especially since I was only six months post-treatment. However, those feelings faded quickly.”
Production for Season 2 kicked off in June, with filming taking place at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, CA, while exterior shots are captured in Pittsburgh, PA. Fans can look forward to Season 2, which is set to premiere in January 2026. The first season, comprised of 15 gripping episodes, followed a unique format where each episode depicted one hour of a 15-hour shift at the hospital. The upcoming season will resume 10 months after the events of Season 1, coinciding with the Fourth of July weekend.
Season 1 garnered an impressive 13 Emmy nominations, including a nod for Noah Wyle as lead actor in a drama series and LaNasa for supporting actress in a drama series. The Emmy Awards will take place on September 14, with final voting scheduled for August 18-27.
