Jamie Lee Curtis Responds to Critic’s Review of "Freakier Friday"
While actors are often advised to steer clear of reviews, Jamie Lee Curtis couldn’t help but respond to a particularly scathing critique of "Freakier Friday." The Oscar-winning actress, who returns to her beloved role as Tess Coleman, took to social media to address Time magazine’s critic, Stephanie Zacharek, after she delivered a sharp review of the Disney sequel to the 2003 classic "Freaky Friday."
In her review, Zacharek stated, “No one, as far as we know, actually asked Disney for a sequel to 2003’s buoyant, surprisingly unsyrupy generation-gap comedy Freaky Friday.” This comment caught Curtis’ attention, prompting her to share her thoughts in an Instagram comment: “SEEMS a TAD HARSH. SOME people LOVE it. Me being one.”
Despite the critical reception, "Freakier Friday" is performing well with audiences, boasting a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 73% average from critics and an impressive 94% audience score. The film is projected to open with earnings between $30 million and $32 million.
In this new installment, Curtis teams up once again with Lindsay Lohan, who plays Tess’ daughter, Anna Coleman. The story unfolds 20 years after the original, as Anna navigates her own challenges with a blended family. This time, the mother-daughter duo finds themselves swapping places with Anna’s daughter, Harper (played by Julia Butters), and her future stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons).
