Everton Pursues Jack Grealish on Season-Long Loan from Manchester City

Everton Football Club is making notable strides in its efforts to secure Jack Grealish from Manchester City on a season-long loan. The talented 29-year-old England international has reportedly given his consent for the move to Merseyside after Pep Guardiola informed him that he is no longer in the club’s plans.

Everton is prepared to cover Grealish’s substantial weekly salary of £300,000, which is a pivotal aspect of the ongoing discussions. His omission from City’s Club World Cup squad in the United States has further highlighted his reduced standing at the Etihad Stadium.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that negotiations between the two clubs are intensifying, with Everton ramping up their efforts to finalize a temporary agreement. Grealish is enthusiastic about joining the Toffees, viewing this transfer as a chance to reignite his career. The talented winger has struggled to secure consistent playing time at City, starting only seven Premier League matches in the current 2024/25 season.

Manchester City is eager to recoup as much of Grealish’s hefty salary as possible, a demand that Everton seems willing to meet. Guardiola has openly addressed the situation, stating, "It was a conversation between him and the club, and they decide. Jack is an exceptional player; the only reason he didn’t play much last season is, of course, my decisions."

Guardiola expressed hope that Grealish can rediscover his form elsewhere, noting, "The fact is, the last two seasons he hasn’t played many minutes, and he needs to get back to playing regularly to feel the excitement again."

Since his record-breaking transfer from Aston Villa for £100 million in 2021, Grealish has scored 17 goals in 157 appearances for the Premier League champions.

If the deal goes through, Grealish would become Everton’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window under the new ownership of the Friedkin Group. The club has already welcomed striker Thierno Barry from Villarreal, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Chelsea, goalkeeper Mark Travers, and defender Adam Aznou. Additionally, the loan of Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo has been made permanent.

David Moyes, who returned to Goodison Park in January 2025, successfully led the club to a comfortable mid-table finish. The Toffees are set to kick off their Premier League campaign at home against newly-promoted Leeds United this weekend, while Manchester City will face Wolverhampton Wanderers in their title defense opener.
