In a heart-pounding rescue, two hikers were saved after becoming stranded on a remote beach near Elephant Rock, one of the most perilous spots within Point Reyes National Seashore. Rising tides cut off their escape route, prompting them to call for help after realizing the gravity of their situation, according to a statement from Emily Fuller, spokesperson for the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
After hours of being trapped, the hikers reached out to emergency services. Due to the difficult terrain and lack of safe access, a helicopter rescue team was quickly dispatched. Using a specialized 100-foot line, the crew successfully hoisted the hikers to safety, securing them in a “hot seat”—a harness specifically designed for aerial rescues.
Video footage captures the intense moment when rescuers descended to the rocky beach and lifted the hikers high above the water, ultimately transporting them to safety with the Marin County Fire Department. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during this harrowing experience.
