Evangelos Marinakis Reacts to Nuno Espirito Santo’s Comments on Nottingham Forest Future
Evangelos Marinakis, co-owner of Nottingham Forest, is reportedly taken aback by the recent remarks made by manager Nuno Espirito Santo regarding his future at the club. With speculation swirling about the possibility of the Portuguese coach facing dismissal, tensions are already running high ahead of Forest’s upcoming match against Crystal Palace.
The clash is particularly charged, as Nottingham Forest was the team that benefited from Crystal Palace’s exit from the Europa League earlier this summer. However, the situation has become more complicated after Espirito Santo disclosed that his relationship with the club’s hierarchy has faced challenges in recent weeks.
According to reports from The Athletic, a rift has developed between Espirito Santo and Edu Gaspar, who recently joined Nottingham Forest as global head of football after a tenure at Premier League rivals Arsenal. Initial interactions between the two have reportedly been rocky, and the relationship has since deteriorated to a point described as "irreparable."
These developments may help explain the surprising comments made by Espirito Santo before the Palace showdown, which have caught the attention of the Forest leadership. Sky Sports has indicated that there is now a genuine possibility that the former Wolves manager may not be at the helm for Sunday’s match at Selhurst Park.
During a press conference on Friday, Espirito Santo stated, "I have always had a very good relationship with the owner. Last season, we communicated almost daily. This season, however, things have changed. While I believe that dialogue is crucial, our relationship is not as close as it once was. It’s not good. I think every member of the club should be united, but unfortunately, that’s not the reality."
