Tragic Loss on the Set of "Emily in Paris": Assistant Director Diego Borella Passes Away
Diego Borella, the talented assistant director for Netflix’s hit series “Emily in Paris,” has tragically passed away at the age of 47. He collapsed unexpectedly while filming Season 5 in Venice on Thursday evening. A spokesperson from Paramount Television Studios expressed their condolences, stating, “We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the ‘Emily in Paris’ production family. Our hearts go out to the individual’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
According to reports from local Italian news outlets, Borella collapsed around 7:00 PM while the crew was preparing for a scene inside the iconic Hotel Danieli. Despite the immediate efforts of medics on set, he was pronounced dead at the scene due to what is believed to be a sudden heart attack.
Following this heartbreaking incident, filming for “Emily in Paris” Season 5 was temporarily halted but resumed on Saturday. Just last week, Netflix unveiled the first look images and premiere date for the upcoming season, which has been in production across various stunning locations in Europe. Filming began in Rome in May, moved to Paris in June, and has been taking place in Venice since August.
The fifth season features a star-studded cast, including Lily Collins, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Samuel Arnold, and many more. In addition to her role as the lead, Collins also serves as a producer for the series. The creative team behind the show includes creator and writer Darren Star, alongside executive producers Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Stephen Brown, Alison Brown, Robin Schiff, Grant Sloss, and Joe Murphy. "Emily in Paris" is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Darren Star Productions, and Jax Media.
As fans and colleagues remember Diego Borella, his contributions to the world of film and television will be deeply missed.
