Dave Franco recently opened up about a pivotal moment in his career that turned into one of his most embarrassing experiences, both on and off the screen. In the iconic 2007 comedy “Superbad,” featuring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, Franco made a memorable yet small appearance as Greg the Soccer Player—one of his earliest roles. In a particularly cringe-worthy scene, Hill’s character, Seth, mocks Franco’s character for having an unfortunate incident where he peed his pants years earlier.
During a recent guest appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Franco shared how this scene not only embarrassed him but also sparked some awkward fan interactions. “I had quite the journey with that scene. Even though I only had a few lines, the movie was such a massive hit that people started recognizing me on the street,” he told host Alex Cooper. “They would shout things like, ‘Why don’t you go piss your pants again?’”
Instead of letting this embarrassment define him, Franco used it as fuel to push himself to continue auditioning. “I quickly realized that I needed to keep working and land more roles so I wouldn’t be remembered as ‘piss boy’ for the rest of my life,” he explained.
Since then, Dave Franco has starred in numerous successful films, including “21 Jump Street,” “Now You See Me,” “Neighbors,” “Now You See Me 2,” “Nerve,” and most recently, “Together,” which he co-stars in with his wife, Alison Brie.
“Superbad” tells the story of two inseparable high school seniors grappling with separation anxiety as their plans for a wild party take an unexpected turn. Franco’s journey from a seemingly embarrassing role to a thriving acting career serves as an inspiring reminder that even the most awkward moments can lead to greater opportunities.
