Caitlin Clark Takes Steps Toward Return with Indiana Fever Amid Injury Recovery
Caitlin Clark, the standout guard for the Indiana Fever, has been sidelined since July 15 due to a persistent groin injury. However, fans received some encouraging news as she was seen participating in light drills during a shootaround on Sunday, just before her teammates faced off against the Minnesota Lynx.
Though head coach Stephanie White confirmed that Clark has not yet rejoined full practice with the Fever, her involvement in the shootaround is a positive indication of her recovery progress. "It was a good step for her to be out there on the floor with us for the first time," White shared with the Indy Star, emphasizing the importance of taking cautious steps in her rehabilitation.
Clark’s participation in the shootaround was described as "very low, low-maintenance," ensuring that she does not risk aggravating her injury. “I think just getting her back out there and comfortable is crucial to her progression,” said White.
The drills Clark engaged in were non-contact and designed to be low-impact, following what is known as dynamic warmups. With only seven games remaining in the Fever’s regular season, the team is striving to secure a playoff spot. Currently, they sit at 19-17, holding onto the No. 6 seed, with only the top eight teams qualifying for the playoffs.
The Fever’s need for Clark’s return is even more pressing given the recent injuries to other key players. Sophie Cunningham, a rising star on the team, suffered an MCL tear in a game against the Connecticut Sun, adding to the list of injured guards that includes Sydney Colson (torn ACL) and Aari McDonald (foot fracture). With three guards sidelined for the season, the Fever are eager to reintegrate their superstar to maintain their playoff hopes.
Clark has played just 13 games this season due to various injuries, including a bone bruise in her left ankle sustained on August 7 and a quad strain earlier in the year. Despite her limited appearances, she has made an impact, averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and five rebounds over 31.1 minutes per game.
As the Fever navigate the final stretch of the season, the return of Caitlin Clark could be pivotal to their success. Stay updated on the latest sports news and follow our coverage on X, or subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter for more insights.
