The Cleveland Browns have officially announced that Joe Flacco will be their starting quarterback for the upcoming Week 1 matchup, despite strong competition from rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Flacco, a seasoned Super Bowl champion, brings valuable experience in head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offensive system, making him the frontrunner for the position.
Flacco expressed confidence in his performance during recent training sessions, stating, “The last couple of weeks have been pretty good for me. I’ve gotten more reps, which has allowed me to get comfortable and perform at a high level.”
While Flacco has been the clear favorite, both Sanders and Gabriel showcased their skills during the preseason. In his debut game, Sanders threw two touchdowns against the Carolina Panthers, but an oblique injury sidelined him for the following game against the Philadelphia Eagles, where Gabriel stepped in. Gabriel completed 13 of 18 passes for 143 yards, with one interception.
Entering his 18th NFL season, Flacco brings a wealth of experience to the Browns. Last year, he played with the Indianapolis Colts, stepping in after Anthony Richardson’s injury, and recorded 1,761 passing yards along with 12 touchdown passes over six games.
The Browns, who finished last season with a 3-14 record, are set to kick off their season against the Cincinnati Bengals. With Flacco at the helm, fans are eager to see how the team will perform.
